Trail Systems
& Master Planning

Trail systems shape how people experience a landscape. Whether connecting neighborhoods, parks, natural areas, or public amenities, good planning creates real opportunities for recreation, accessibility, environmental stewardship, and long-term community growth.

GreenRoots partners with municipalities, organizations, developers, and community stakeholders to design trail networks, greenways, parks, and master plans that balance function, sustainability, and the character of each site. From early visioning through construction, we help create outdoor spaces that serve communities today and hold up for decades.

Founded in Kennett Square in 2002, GreenRoots has spent over twenty years designing and building for this region. Private estates, public parks, school courtyards, bike parks, and community trails alike. We bring the same care to public land that we bring to every private property we touch.

The most successful trail systems feel like they were always meant to be there, guiding people through the landscape while preserving and celebrating the character of the land.

What We Offer

Trail System & Greenway Design:
We design trail networks that connect people with parks, neighborhoods, natural areas, and community destinations. Every trail is planned to respond to the existing landscape while creating safe, accessible, and memorable outdoor experiences.

Park & Community Master Planning:
We help communities plan the future of their parks, open spaces, and recreation areas. Our master plans balance long-term goals with practical implementation so that investment decisions are made in the right sequence, not forced all at once.

Grant Support & Project Planning:
Most public projects need grant funding to move forward. We help develop concept plans, planning documents, and supporting materials that communicate a clear project vision to funders. A well-designed project tells a better story.

Design-Build Installation:
GreenRoots doesn't hand off a set of drawings and walk away. Our crews construct trails, parks, planting areas, grading, drainage, and site improvements with the same attention to detail that guided the design. What we design, we build.

Planning Places That Last

Parks and trail systems become more than paths through a landscape. They become places where people explore, gather, exercise, and connect. We design for accessibility, environmental responsibility, long-term durability, and the character of each specific site.

Past projects include the Kennett Bike Park and Pump Track, a walking trail and playground for a local kindergarten, and the Unionville High School courtyard. Each one built to the same standard we hold for every project we take on.

Who We Work With

We work with municipalities, township parks departments, land conservancies, nonprofit organizations, schools, developers, and community groups throughout Chester County, including Kennett Square, West Chester, Chadds Ford, and Downingtown, and into northern Delaware. Whether you're planning a neighborhood trail, expanding a park, or starting a long-term master plan, we're happy to have the conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with municipalities and nonprofit organizations?

Yes. We regularly work with municipalities, conservancies, school districts, nonprofits, and community organizations on public projects. We understand the planning, permitting, funding, and coordination that public spaces require and we've been through that process many times in this region.

Do you assist with grant funding and applications?

Yes. We help clients develop design documentation, concept plans, and project narratives that support grant applications. Having a clear, well-designed vision makes a real difference in how a funding application lands.

Can GreenRoots handle both design and construction?

Yes. GreenRoots is a design-build firm. Our crew builds what our designers draw. One point of contact, no gaps between design intent and finished product, and no finger-pointing if something needs to be resolved in the field.

What's the first step?

Start with a conversation. Contact us or call (484) 631-3852, and tell us about the site, the community it serves, and what you're hoping to accomplish. We'll tell you what we think is possible and whether we're the right fit for the project.
