Modern Meets Nature

This Kennett Square home was rebuilt from the ground up, giving GreenRoots a rare shot at designing the landscape and the architecture as one relationship from day one. The result plays contrast against contrast: clean modern lines framed by soft, organic planting that keeps the property feeling grounded instead of stark.

Circulation drove every decision. Entry points lead naturally toward seating areas and walkways, linking the high-traffic zones to quieter corners built for slowing down. Even the driveway became a design opportunity: plantings tucked among contrasting stone soften the arrival and set the tone before you reach the front door.

The Experience

Contrast is the throughline, and it's built from real material tension: a gravel courtyard against crisp architectural lines, ornamental grasses softening the edges of bluestone steps, perennial borders easing the shift from hard surface to garden. A simple, solid fire pit anchors the quieter end of the property, playing off the home's contemporary farmhouse structure the same way the plantings do: softening without competing.

Move deeper into the property and the architecture recedes into the background. Walkways guide you naturally from the gravel courtyard toward the fire pit and the quieter spaces built around it, a shift from function to feeling that defines the whole design.
