Custom residential pool with bluestone coping and deck, dry-stack stone retaining wall, and covered outdoor living pavilion with perennial planting border

Outdoor Haven

This Greenville property didn't start from a blank slate. Working alongside the home's renovation builder, GreenRoots incorporated and repurposed existing structures and stone walls rather than replacing them outright, creating a landscape that feels intentional and connected to the newly renovated home instead of built on top of it.

The design leans into a modern, streamlined aesthetic while making the most of the entire site. Circulation, planting, hardscape, and the property's existing architectural elements were tied together so the landscape functions as one connected environment, built for a family that uses every part of their property, not just the spaces closest to the house.

The Project Brief

  • Existing structures and stone walls incorporated and repurposed, not replaced
  • Landscape coordinated with the home's renovation builder for a seamless result
  • Perennial plantings and a birch grove softening the hardscape
  • A fully connected landscape designed for year-round family us

The Experience

Stone retaining walls with brick coping carry through the property, tying the pool and spa area back to the home's existing architecture instead of starting over beside it. Bluestone patios connect one zone to the next, while curved, brick-edged planting beds fill in with echinacea, alliums, and roses that keep the hardscape from feeling too rigid.

A grove of birch trees and a pergola-covered gathering space give the property quieter corners to retreat to, away from the pool and spa. As evening sets in, layered lighting carries the whole property from a bright, active afternoon into a softer, more relaxed environment after dark.

A great landscape doesn't erase what's already there. It builds on it.
